Superman wins Mildura 100 in Record time

he skiers from the Superman crew have not only won their first Mildura 100 ski race but have become the fastest team ever down the Murray River course.

Under perfect conditions Superman, which won the Top 40 shoot out on Saturday, clocked a very fast time in the first leg.

The same applied with the run back to the Ski Club site for not only the outright win but breaking Hellrazor’s race record which had stood since the year 2015

Skier Daniel Cotton said the calm conditions had really helped and although there was a bit of a breeze on the home leg, the water was still calm.

Superman took out the superclass category in a time of 30 minutes, 41 seconds, 17 seconds faster than the previous record.

Winning crew was driver Darren McGuire, observer Brett Armstrong, along with skiers Daniel Graziano and Daniel Cotton.

The Superman crew also got a surprise to become the winner of the King of the Murray title for 2018 after the winners of the two previous events at Robinvale and Echuca Merc Force did not finish the course.

Don Gulley did not compete in the Top 40 shoot out because he had one of his skiers Kristofer Knights back in Cowra where is wife is about to deliver a baby.

He flew into Mildura on a charter flight to participate in the race but in the early stages fellow skier Jack Tegart fell and the boat stopped to help him to the river bank with Merc Force out of the race.

Second fastest boat overall was Unlimited Inboard expert winner Arkham Asylum driven by Brett Spits in a time of 31 minutes and 54 seconds while local boat Pigs Arsenal third.

The local team on the podium comprised Chris Stevens (driver); Mark Boyer (observer), skiers Jack and Sean Stevens.

Surprise winners in the Boys Under 19 class were skiers Ryan Thomson and Lachlan Op De Coul.

They were part of the crew of the boat Masterforce, driven by Mildura Ski Club President Geoff Thomson with observer Craig Harper.

The winner of the SMOG Outboard Expert class was Still No Dramas driven by Brandon McGlynn, observer Kade Spencer, along with skiers Lachlan McGlynn and Declan Hartley.
