SFNL PRE SEASON SCORES

Merbein overcame Wentworth in a very entertaining game in the SFNL pre-season carnival conducted at the George Gordon Oval, Dareton on Saturday.

While Wentworth kicked the first goal, Merbein came back with some strong work up forward from Michael Harradine, who finished the match with seven goals.

The Roos were delighted to have Colin Andrews back after a season playing at Balranald in 2017.  A six goal burst in the third term had brought them back into the game.

Magpie Recruits Jayden White, Michael Aaron Westley, Zach Webb along with youngsters Gus Rogers, Harley Holmes and Josh Carmichael were some of the better players in a good team performance.

The Magpie netballers also had a good day making the grand final in the fast Five competition.

South Mildura won the opening game over the 2017 Millewa premiers Nangiloc in a good opener to the carnival on Saturday morning.

Irymple began sensationally with early goals against Robinvale-Euston but the combine pegged them back and got the front by three quarter time.

Veteran Don Falvo kicked the first Eagle goal of the day but team mates were off target with Irymple leading at one stage 5.3 to 1.8.

Daniel Coghlan and Nick Mee (three goals) showed early season form for Irymple while for Robinvale new coach Leon Johnson, along with Brayden Turner, Ethan Gill and Ryan Middlebrook were good players, along with a number of youngsters.

Ouyen United started okay and led three goals to one in the first quarter despite having only a total compliment of 21 players when the Club had a capacity to field at least eight interchange players.

Ouyen led early but with two players departing for a wedding at half time, along with injuries to Jake Cresp and Mitch Taylor saw them finish with 17 men.

Jonty Marciano was probably the best on the ground for the Tigers, which was led by a very busy ball getter in coach Brian Fenton.

A very young Mildura side took the field against Imperials and while the Demons were first to goal and midway through the first term led Imps two goals to one.

But after quarter time Imperials over powered the youngsters to kick the highest score and have the biggest win of the day.

Big Darren Atkinson was back at Imperials playing alongside his son, who is expected to get senior experience this season.
